SHAH ALAM, July 22 — A total of 600 home-based childcare providers have received training under the Selangor Early Childhood Care and Education Caretaker (Impak Selangor) programme so far.
Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor (Yawas) general manager Gan Pei Nei said they were given the necessary guidance through a two-day, one-night child development incentive course for free.
She said this is part of the organisation's goal to train 1,000 child caregivers this year.
“So far, 600 home-based childcare providers have completed 11 training courses and received participation certificates. We aim to train the remaining 400 by the end of this year,” she said during a live broadcast of the HAI SELANGOR show on SelangorTV today.
“The training modules include understanding early childhood development for children under six years old, known as the ‘golden age’. Additionally, participants are introduced to laws related to childcare, health and nutrition.
“Most caregivers in flat residential areas understand that many residents belong to the low-income group (B40). So, this programme is a state government initiative to equip them with the knowledge and skills for child care.”
Gan urged those interested in joining the training programme to register online, although they must meet five criteria.
“The criteria include being 18 years old or above and having never attended a childcare course with another government agency to prioritize those who have not undergone the training before.
“Additionally, they must care for no more than three children, need to be residing and registered voters in Selangor, and must have at least one year of childcare experience,” she said.
