MOE holds school events featuring scientists to draw students to STEM

KUALA LUMPUR, July 18 — Events featuring scientists will be held in 100 schools nationwide to draw students’ interest to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects, said Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.

She said the events will be held in collaboration with the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry (Mosti).

She said her ministry, along with the Higher Education Ministry and Mosti, has established a Special STEM Committee that focuses on the direction of relevant subjects from primary to tertiary study levels.

“Various STEM-related development programmes, initiatives and activities are being carried out in schools, with their implementation involving corporate strategic partners and the community,” she said in a statement today.

Fadhlina said the synergy between her ministry and its stakeholders has been intensified to boost students’ interest and participation in STEM, as desired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Anwar, when opening the National Bioeconomy Showcase 2024 yesterday, asked Science, Technology, and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang to enlist 100 scientists in the field of biotechnology for programmes aimed at drawing students’ interest in STEM in 100 schools across Malaysia.

He ordered a report on the events be sent to him within two weeks.
