SHAH ALAM, July 17 — Raja Muda Selangor Tengku Amir Shah has praised the Selangor Red Giants (SRG) e-sports team for winning the Mid Season Cup (MSC) Mobile Legends Bang Bang (MLBB) championship, describing it as an 'extraordinary' achievement.
His Highness said the team's accomplishment makes it the first Malaysian team to win an international MLBB S-Tier tournament.
"You have all displayed courage, perseverance, and determination not only in the MSC 2024 but since we embarked on the e-ports project in 2023.
"You have overcome obstacles at every stage, conquered various challenges, and achieved numerous successes beyond expectations, ultimately being crowned World Champions!" said Tengku Amir in a statement today.
Speaking as SRG's owner, His Highness said the team has brought pride to the entire nation and placed Malaysia on the world map as a respected and formidable force in the international MLBB arena.
"The team has trained and fought tirelessly over the past 18 months, and this achievement is the result of their effort, discipline, and sacrifices during this period.
"I am extremely proud of the Selangor Red Giants for all they have achieved and will continue to achieve," said Tengku Amir.
His Highness expressed the hope that this historic moment for Malaysia will encourage more people to get involved in e-sports or any field they pursue, as SRG has managed to unite and inspire Malaysians to dream big and strive for excellence in whatever they do.
"(May they do so) with the confidence and belief that Malaysians can also become world champions! This is the Champion Mentality! This is the Selangor Red Giants!" said Tengku Amir.
The MSC MLBB 2024, held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Sunday (July 14), saw SRG defeat Philippines Falcons AP Bren Sport by 4-3, ending the country's seven-year drought in international e-sports.
The victory saw SRG bag the trophy and US$1 million (RM4.67 million) in cash.
