KAJANG, July 16 — The Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) Foundation has distributed RM500,000 this year to disaster victims across the state.

Its head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said the allocation was either handed directly to the victims or via their state assemblymen.

“We allocated RM1 million this year to help victims of disasters such as flood, storm and fire. As of today, almost RM500,000 has been distributed to victims.

“This assistance is not only focused on homes or individuals, but also to mosques, surau and schools,” he said after handing over cash donations worth RM1,000 each to nine flood and storm victims at the Kajang constituency office here yesterday.

Also present was Kajang assemblyman Cheong Kian Young.

Azri said MBI has established its own charitable foundation to facilitate public contributions and involvement in aid programmes.

“We have received a lot of feedback from the public wanting to contribute and help, but MBI does not accept donations directly. Instead, we channel assistance to the people.

“The management therefore decided to establish the MBI Foundation, with its own management and entity. This enables the public and companies to contribute and participate in community outreach programmes,” he said.

Meanwhile, Cheong said the addition of 154 new parking spaces at the Kajang public health clinic will accommodate the growing number of visitors.

This was following multiple complaints by the public over the lack of parking spaces there.

“The parking issue at the Kajang health clinic was raised by residents during the recent state election campaign. Previously, visitors, especially pregnant women, had to walk long distances due to the lack of parking spaces.

“After receiving the people’s mandate, I met with several parties, including developers willing to take on corporate social responsibility, and some agreed to help.

“The upgrading of the parking area took only a few months, and now the clinic has 204 parking lots compared with just 50 previously,” he said.
