MB urges village heads, state reps to cooperate on welfare programmes

SHAH ALAM, July 15 — Cooperation among community leaders is crucial for delivering state initiatives, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

Chiefly, he said village heads must better coordinate welfare programmes intended by state assemblymen for residents in each locality.

“A total of 373 village chiefs have been appointed as government representatives. In their respective localities, they will have state assemblymen and coordinators responsible for assisting and coordinating programmes.

“Today, the state government offers 46 welfare programmes. We have initiatives like Selangor Sihat and MamaKerja, with some requiring registration. Depending solely on assemblymen to set up service centres for registrations may be ineffective.

“Village heads must assist in facilitating and supporting programmes organised by the state by distributing information on aid programmes, ensuring their benefits are received and enjoyed by the people,” he said.

Amirudin said this after handing over appointment letters to 373 Village Development and Safety Committee chairmen cum village heads for the 2024/25 session at Concorde Hotel here today.

The Menteri Besar reminded all appointees to maintain harmonious relationships with district officers to ensure development programmes are planned according to residents’ needs.

“Village heads will be supervised by district officers to carry out administrative tasks and welfare and social programmes, as well as to propose maintenance and development plans for each village.

“This two-way relationship ensures issues related to registration, maintenance, village conditions and community programmes are improved and presented during meetings, enabling proposed actions to be recommended to the state government and Selangor Economic Action Council.”
