SHAH ALAM, July 10 — Selangor is studying the implementation of flexible working arrangements for parents to ensure better work-life balance, said state executive councillor for women empowerment and welfare Anfaal Saari.

State subsidiary Wanita Berdaya Selangor (WBS) has been tasked with identifying and scrutinising suitable models that could be adopted in Selangor.

“WBS is exploring flexible work arrangement models that are relevant to help both male and female workers achieve a better balance between family and career,” she said in her winding-up speech for the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) Mid-Rerm Review during the State Legislative Assembly session today.

If implemented, this would address challenges currently faced by working parents, in line with the state government’s aim of fostering a conducive working environment to accommodate family needs without compromising career growth.

However, Anfaal did not provide further details pertaining to the proposal.

In her speech, the councillor also announced another programme targeted at parents with the goal of increasing their knowledge and empowering them to handle the challenges of the digital era, particularly concerning children.

Dubbed the Digital Parenting programme, the initiative comprising 10 sessions will be conducted across all districts in Selangor, targeting 300 participants.

It is scheduled to start on August 3, and the Raja Tun Uda Library in Shah Alam has been selected as the programme’s first venue in the Petaling district.

“Digital Parenting is designed to educate parents about digital challenges and equip them with essential skills to effectively manage and support their children in today’s digital age,” she said.

Separately, Anfaal said the state government is currently developing an action plan under the Selangor Care Economy Policy to encourage productive engagements among senior citizens and even provide them with potential income avenues.

The action plan, in line with the RS-1’s initiative on the Selangor Silver Workforce, will be tailored to senior citizens’ needs, taking into account their abilities.

“The Selangor Public Library Corporation, for example, has initiated the human library project, providing a platform for the elderly to share their expertise and skills with those in need,” she said.
