Business as usual at police stations despite 10pm gate-shut order — Top cop

KUALA LUMPUR, July 9 — The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) will provide services as usual although police stations nationwide have been instructed to shut their gates at 10pm.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the people can lodge complaints and reports as usual, and that the instruction to all stations will be distributed after the standard operating procedure has been presented to Bukit Aman Management Department director Datuk Seri Azmi Kassim.

“As stressed by Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, we must balance the role of police stations as places where the public lodges reports, with them also being targets of threats,” he said.

He added that the implementation of the 10pm gate-shut order currently involves police stations in remote and rural areas.

During a question-and-answer session at the Dewan Rakyat today, Saifuddin Nasution said the Home Affairs Ministry has ordered that police station gates nationwide be shut at 10pm as a security measure following an attack on the Ulu Tiram police station in Johor, which killed two cops.

He said the order was issued to make police services available to the people while ensuring the safety of cops on duty.
