Selangor sets RM5 mln to clear drains on unowned land

SHAH ALAM, July 9 — The Selangor government has allocated RM5 million this year to clear drains and culverts on unowned land in the state.

State executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Izham Hashim said this one-off allocation, which will cover over 300km, will be divided over two phases.

He said the first phase will target drains and culverts identified by the Selangor Irrigation and Drainage Department over 162km, while the second phase will cover drains identified by the state Public Works Department, local authorities, and the Land and District Office.

Izham, who is Pandan Indah assemblyman, said this in response to a query by Rosnizan Ahmad (PN-Morib) about the maintenance of drains on unowned land, at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.

Izham said the state government is preparing a paper on the handover of these drains and culverts to relevant agencies.

“The recommendation has been approved and policy papers must be finalised by year-end, to ensure funds are allocated for regular maintenance next year,” he said.
