KUALA LUMPUR, June 12 — The Unity Government’s candidate for the Sungai Bakap by-election will be announced at 9pm, said the bloc secretariat.
Unity Government secretariat chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki in a statement said the decision was reached at a secretariat meeting, involving top leaders of Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional, yesterday in Seri Perdana, Putrajaya.
“For the purpose of coordinating and standardising the work of the by-election machinery, the meeting decided to appoint Rafizi Ramli and Senator Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir as co-chairmen of the Unity Government’s election machinery main committee,” said the statement.
The statement also said the Sungai Bakap by-election joint operation chairmen representing the Penang Unity Government will be led by Datuk Mohamad Abdul Hamid and Datuk Musa Sheikh Fadzir.
Polling day for the Sungai Bakap by-election is July 6, with nomination on June 22 and early voting on July 2.
The Sungai Bakap seat fell vacant after the death of its incumbent, Nor Zamri Latiff, on May 24 due to stomach inflammation.
