US ambassador hosts National Day, highlights continuing strong ties with Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, June 10 — The United States (US) Ambassador to Malaysia Edgard D. Kagan hosted his first US National Day celebration in Malaysia this evening.

The early ceremony marked the upcoming US 248th Independence Day, which is celebrated on July 4.

The event, held at a renowned hotel, was attended by some 500 guests, including foreign heads of missions, Malaysian government officials, and business leaders.

Kagan said the diversity of the attendees, which included NGO activists, educators, government officials, and university representatives, is a testament to the breadth and depth of the US-Malaysia partnership.

“It is a reminder of the fact that the US relationship touches so many people across Malaysian society,” he told the press at the event.

On the same note, Kagan acknowledged the responsibility he and his colleagues at the embassy feel in continuing to build on the strong foundation of US-Malaysia relations.

“We have something that is really good, and by working together, we can make it even better,” he said.

Kagan also expressed optimism that through collaborative efforts, the partnership can be elevated to new heights, ultimately providing greater support and benefits to people in both countries.

The guest of honour was Transport Minister Anthony Loke, who represented the Malaysian government.

Themed “Sports”, the event featured stage performances by Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur’s band Combo KL.

July 4 marks the anniversary of the United States’ declaration of independence in 1776 and is celebrated annually as a national holiday in the US.
