SHAH ALAM, June 6 — The state’s Entrepreneur Development Training Programme (U-PLATS) has helped participating traders expand their businesses and market reach.

Selangor Menteri Besar (Incorporated) social responsibility and corporate communications head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said the programme, under Platform Selangor (PLATS), has been instrumental in empowering entrepreneurs with skills and knowledge, leading to increased profits.

Highlighting the success story of one participant, Azri shared how organic vegetable trader B. Kala Rani was able to significantly increase her income with skills she acquired through U-PLATS, with the help of the Selayang Municipal Council.

“Thanks to what she learnt in the U-PLATS course, she became adept at using TikTok. She is diligent in creating content and going live, with viewership reaching 50,000,” he said.

Azri said he is satisfied with Kala Rani’s progress, facilitated by U-PLATS.

“We feel that the platform, encouragement and support we have provided are worthwhile. When we (government agencies and GLCs) are genuine about wanting to help and create good programmes for the people, positive results will follow,” he said.

The U-PLATS programme currently supports 362 entrepreneurs.

It comprises three phases — U-PLATS Digital in collaboration with the Selangor Youth Community, which ran from last September to t hisMarch; U-PLATS Let’s Halal in partnership with HIS Toyyiba, which is expected to begin next month; and U-PLATS Expand, which is scheduled to start next March.

PLATS was introduced by the Selangor government in 2020 to enhance the digitalisation ecosystem in the state following the Covid-19 pandemic, and has been improved since to ensure traders can generate continuous income.
