Palestine asks to join S. Africa’s genocide case against Israel at world court

THE HAGUE, June 4 — The International Court of Justice (ICJ) said yesterday Palestine filed in the Registry of the Court a bid to intervene and a declaration of intervention in South Africa’s case against Israel, alleging genocide in the Gaza Strip.

In a statement, the ICJ said Palestine submitted its request on May 31, Palestine News and Info Agency reported.

Palestine’s request comes within the framework of its commitment to take all legal steps to defend the rights of Palestinians and stop the genocide.

It also comes in the context of Palestine’s commitment to legitimacy and international law as a basis for ending historical injustice and colonial occupation, and holding Israel accountable for its crimes.

Palestine called on all parties in the International Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Genocide to join the suit filed by South Africa, protect Palestinians from genocide, ensure the heinous crime does not recur, and preserve the viability of the international law-based system.

Palestine called on all countries to adhere to precautionary orders issued by the ICJ, urging for their speedy implementation.
