PETALING JAYA, May 23 — Petaling Jaya Mayor Mohamad Zahri Samingon has achieved 82 per cent implementation of projects planned for the city within just his first 100 days in office.
This involves the completion of 31 out of the overall 56 projects lined up.
Among the completed projects are the Smart Billboard System, Customer Feedback System (CFS) and Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) Recycle and Redeem for Plastic Bags.
Other initiatives that are currently underway include the PJ City Food Valley, Voluntary Local Review and SDGs City Road Map, and Petaling Jaya Transportation Master Plan.
“Out of the 56 programmes, 31 have been completed while the remaining 25 are still under scheduled monitoring,” he said in his speech to update on his first 100 days in office at MBPJ’s Banquet Hall, here, today.
According to Zahri, these projects contributed to the realisation of 10 thematic initiatives under the Petaling Jaya Smart, Sustainable and Resilient 2030 master plan.
They also align with the six principles of the Malaysia Madani policy framework and 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs), as well as the First Selangor Plan’s (RS-1) four strategic themes.
“Under the first main thrust of RS-1, which focuses on economic strengthening, we have achieved a 38.1 per cent completion rate across eight projects.
“Thrust number two on improving people’s welfare and social inclusion, we are at 96 per cent, involving 21 projects,” he said.
Zahri said under the third thrust on environmental sustainability, MBPJ has reached an 84.9 per cent completion rate, consisting of eight projects, while the fourth thrust on effective governance is currently at 84.3 per cent, involving 20 projects.
Based on the Malaysia Madani framework, he said the highest achievement involves the Ihsan principle — at 96.1 per cent — with projects including donation programmes for the underprivileged.
Today’s event was also attended by stakeholders in Petaling Jaya, including residents’ associations, government agencies, developers and trade associations.
Zahri was appointed as the Petaling Jaya mayor on February 1, succeeding Mohamad Azhan Md Amir, who is now the deputy secretary-general (management and development) at the Higher Education Ministry.
