SHAH ALAM, May 21 — The RM4.7 million flood mitigation project along Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP) near IOI Mall Puchong is expected to be complete by year-end, said Ng Sze Han.

The state executive councillor for investment, trade, and mobility said the project, which began in May last year, is in its second phase.

“Progress is going smoothly, with 50 per cent of the work completed.

“It is expected to be completed by the end of this year, (which) means there will be a new route from IOI Business Park to a retention pond behind the business mall,” he said at a press conference at the Selangor State Secretariat Building here today.

Ng said completion was delayed as construction can only be carried out at night after the LRT stops operating.

The Kinrara assemblyman said upon completion of the project, Prasarana Malaysia Bhd (Prasarana) will enlarge the drain near IOI Mall Puchong.

“This will be followed by the building of a large culvert below the IOI Puchong Jaya LRT station.

“Excavation works can only be carried out at night after LRT operations have ceased. Therefore, the (pipe) jacking work along the highway takes longer because the contractor can only work for three to four hours each night,” he said.

Ng added that other areas that will undergo drain upgrades is the intersection between the LDP and Lebuh Puteri, Puchong Indah, and Kampung Melor Batu 14, which is expected to be completed within one or two months.

He said the total cost for the four drain upgrades was about RM5 million.

Ng said after recent flash floods in those areas, discussions are ongoing with agencies such as the Irrigation and Drainage Department, Prasarana, IOI Properties Group Bhd, Litrak, Selangor Water Management Board, Subang Jaya City Council, and Puchong local councillors.

“We want to identify the cause of and actions taken following the flash floods that occurred in the four areas two weeks ago,” he said.

Given recent irregular rainfall patterns, Ng expressed hope that floods from two weeks ago will not recur, noting that rainfall was exceptionally high at 87.5mm.
