SHAH ALAM, May 20 — The Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) is set to promote 350 historical landmarks in the former state capital through the Klang Royal City Heritage Trail (Jejak Warisan Bandaraya Diraja Klang) initiative.

Its deputy mayor, Mohd Zary Affendi Mohd Arif, said the first phase will see the showcasing of 30 unique attractions to the public.

"Through the promotion of this trail, we will work together towards preserving heritage sites in Klang," he said at the Klang Car-Free Day in Klang yesterday.

According to Zary Affendi, five agencies have been appointed to ensure the success of the Klang Royal City Heritage Trail initiative.

They are Telekom Malaysia, Universiti Malaya Community, Klang Puspanita, Sime Darby Property, the auxiliary police and the Klang Cooperation Charity Club (KCCC).

Separately, Zary Affendi said MBDK will introduce the Sungai Klang Heritage Trail (Jejak Warisan Sungai Klang) and Bayu Samudera Trail (Jejak Bayu Samudera), where visitors will be taken on a boat ride to several locations with rich heritage.

“It starts at Port Klang and the Taman Pengkalan Batu jetty, and visitors will be taken on a trip along the Kuala Sungai Klang area, which was the site of an old fort during the Klang War.

"In addition to showcasing the natural heritage of the mangrove forest and the lives of the Orang Asli community and fishermen, the initiative also aims to restore the significance of historical sites that are not widely known to the public," he said.

Meanwhile, close to 2,000 visitors attended the Klang Car-Free Day at Laman Seni Safari yesterday, which featured various programmes and activities including a fun walk, aerobics, health screening and exhibition from government agencies.

This is the first such programme since Klang was upgraded to a city status.
