HULU SELANGOR, May 19 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari believes the support and solidarity shown by supporters for Faisal Halim helped lift the spirit of Selangor FC players, ensuring their victory in the opening match of the new Malaysia Super League campaign.

He noted that although the Red Giants were still traumatised by the acid attack on Faisal two weeks ago, they still managed to secure a 1-0 win against Kedah Darul Aman (KDA) FC last night.

"Faisal is facing a significant challenge. He was nearly blinded with acid droplets missing his eyes by less than two millimetres. He could have died if he had swallowed that sulphuric acid.

"Physically, his condition is much better now, but speaking with him and considering the psychological reports, I know he is facing significant trauma and so is Selangor FC, which has also been affected by this attack."

"However, with the people’s support, prayers, slogans, printing of shirts, among others, the Selangor football team excelled and won 1-0 against Kedah," he said after officiating the closing ceremony of the state-level National Youth Day celebration, here, today.

Yesterday, Selangor FC secured all three points from their opening Super League match after KDA FC through a solitary goal by Aliff Haiqal Lau in the 85th minute.

On May 5, Faisal, who is fondly known as Mickey, suffered fourth degree burns on several parts of his body after being attacked with acid by an unknown assailant in Petaling Jaya. The incident severely restricted his movement and speech.

He is expected to be out for up to six months and will miss Malaysia’s World Cup 2026/Asia Cup 2027 qualifiers against Kyrgyzstan and Taiwan next month.
