Rapid Bus expands DRT van service network at Sri Rampai LRT station

KUALA LUMPUR, May 17 — Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd will expand its Demand-Responsive Transit (DRT) van service network on the T221 route from the Sri Rampai Light Rail Transit (LRT) station to Giant Ulu Klang from Monday (May 20) onwards.

Its chief executive officer Muhammad Yazurin Sallij said the DRT van service would operate simultaneously with the KL Rapid buses on the T221 route for two to four weeks.

“Rapid Bus will use this period to analyse usage trends and passenger demand. This is a transition period before fully switching to DRT vans as a permanent transportation mode,” he said in a statement today.

The DRT van service uses the online booking concept and offers flexibility to book trips according to desired times through the Kumpool application.

He added that the selected routes for the DRT service are those with relatively low usage and frequency.

“To breathe new life and further boost public transportation in the Klang Valley, we at Rapid Bus plan to add routes using this DRT mode, which will surely be faster, regardless of peak or off-peak hours. The travel time for passengers will also be shorter,” Yazurin said.

The introduction of the T221 DRT route brings the total number of vans launched so far to five, including areas like the Wangsa Maju LRT, the Alam Megah LRT, the Taman Paramount LRT, and the Taman Bahagia LRT.

“By the end of June, Rapid Bus will further expand its DRT network with an additional 15 vans at several other LRT stations in the Klang Valley,” he said.

The DRT service offers guaranteed seats that can be booked daily from 6am to 11.30pm, with an introductory fare of RM1 per trip.

“Passengers can pay the fare using the My50 Unlimited Travel Pass, Touch N' Go cards, the MyCity Pass, Family Pass, the MyRapid Concession Card, the OKU Smile Free Travel Pass, or cash,” Yazurin said.
