Syndicate using flexi bags to misappropriate diesel busted

PUCHONG, May 15 — An attempt by a syndicate to misappropriate subsidised diesel using flexi bags failed when the tactic was detected by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry's (KPDN) Selangor branch, involving RM211,560 in seizures at Pulau Meranti, Puchong yesterday night.

Its director Mohd Zuhairi Mat Radey said the raid involved the seizure of 98,400 litres of suspected diesel, which was the result of public complaints and intelligence carried out over two weeks.

“The 10pm raid was carried out in collaboration with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Wildlife Crime Bureau/Intelligence Special Investigation (WCB/PSK),” he said.

During the raid, a tanker lorry and the syndicate’s container were placed in an open area, and the container was filled with flexi bags containing 70,000 litres of diesel, which was believed to be used as a storage space.

“These people are believed to be selling diesel to the industry (factories), and the diesel was obtained from several petrol stations around here, using bonded trucks, before being transferred to a tanker and the container,” Zuhairi said during a press conference at the location of the raid today.

Four individuals, aged 43 to 45, consisting of two lorry drivers and two assistants, were arrested while pumping diesel into the tanker during the raid.

“All suspects failed to produce a licence or permit to store the diesel and were remanded for three days, starting today, to assist the investigation under the Control of Supplies Act 1961, “ he said.
