SHAH ALAM, May 15 — The state government has expressed a keen interest in furthering collaborations with the Japanese government and mobility players.

State executive councillor for investment, trade, and mobility Ng Sze Han said this comes after a discussion between the Selangor delegation and the Osaka Prefectural Government in the Japanese port city, which focused on the latter’s innovative Smart City Strategy and Smart Mobility initiatives.

The meeting was part of Ng’s ongoing working visit to Japan.

“One of the mobility providers in Osaka is Willer Inc, which operates the Mobi demand-responsive transit (DRT) service for the community in Japan. In Selangor, Mobi DRT is operated by Badan Bas Coach Sdn Bhd, a local startup,” he said in a Facebook post today.

During the meeting, the Selangor delegation also learned about the challenges posed by Osaka's ageing population, which necessitates government intervention.

This is to ensure more accessible public transportation, particularly for vulnerable groups.

“It was a very fruitful engagement, and we wish to develop further collaborative networks with the Japanese government and mobility players,” Ng said.

On Monday (May 13), the Selangor delegation visited Willer Inc.’s headquarters in Osaka to learn more about its integrated mobility services in Japan.

In an earlier Facebook post, the councillor said the team would also host sharing sessions pertaining to the Selangor Mobility initiative with local councils in Japan

Yesterday, the Selangor delegation also met with the Malaysian Investment Development Authority’s (Mida) Osaka chapter led by Gulam Muszairi Gulam Mustakim, with the discussion focusing on Japanese food.

“We also shared some potential collaborations with Mida Osaka, including the upcoming World Expo 2025 Osaka next year,” Ng said.
