KKB by-election voter turnout lower than in Pelangai, Kemaman

HULU SELANGOR, May 11 — The Election Commission said as at 3pm, voter turnout at the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election was 50.87 per cent.

This figure is lower than those for the Pelangai (October 7, 2023) and Kemaman (December 2, 2023) by-elections.

As at 12pm, only 32.51 per cent of voters had cast their ballots in Kuala Kubu Baharu compared with 44 per cent by noon during the Pelangai polls and 35 per cent by noon during the Kemaman by-election.

The SJKC Bukit Fraser voting centre closed at 2pm as it was catering to only 40 voters. Returning officer Yuhanas Auree Kamaruddin said the ballot box will be sent to the official tallying centre at the Hulu Selangor District Sports Complex Multipurpose Hall.

The remaining 17 voting centres will close at 6pm as scheduled.

Meanwhile, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain told Bernama there have been no reports of race, religion and royalty issues during the 14-day campaign period for the by-election.

He said 190 campaign permits were approved for parties and individuals contesting in the polls.

The four-cornered contest will see Pakatan Harapan candidate Pang Sock Tao going up against Perikatan Nasional’s Khairul Azhari Saut, Parti Rakyat Malaysia’s Hafizah Zainuddin, and Independent candidate Nyau Ke Xin.
