HULU SELANGOR, April 28 — The Unity Government's candidate for the ongoing Kuala Kubu Baharu state constituency by-election took time to meet with voters around Bandar Utama Batang Kali yesterday. today

Pang Sock Tao, 31, appeared at ease with meeting voters of various races regardless of age on the campaign's first day.

Accompanied by Puchong MP Puchong Yeo Bee Yin and Bandar Utama state assemblyman Jamaliah Jamaluddin, she was cheerful and relaxed as she introduced herself to voters as candidate number two.

Voter Lim Cho Kee, 75, said he was excited to meet the Pakatan Harapan candidate and hopes she will live up to the late Kuala Kubu Baharu state assemblyman Lee Kee Hiong's legacy.

The Election Commission (EC) called for the by-election following Lee's passing from cancer on March 21.

Pang faces off against Perikatan Nasional's Khairul Azhari Saut, Parti Rakyat Malaysia's Hafizah Zainudin, and Independent candidate Nyau Ke Xin.

The state constituency has 40,226 voters comprising 39,362 regular voters, 625 police personnel, 238 military personnel and their spouses, and one absentee abroad.

The EC has set the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election's polling date to May 11, with early voting on May 7 and a 14-day campaign period.
