SHAH ALAM, April 23 — The Federal and state governments are extending RM1,500 in assistance to each family sheltering in temporary evacuation centres (PPS) after their residences were affected by the recent floods.

State executive councillor for disaster management Najwan Halimi said the National Disaster Management Agency contributes RM1,000, while the state government provides an additional RM500.

"Per our records 178 families are residing in three PPS, comprising 90 families from the Petaling district, 15 families from Kuala Selangor, and 73 families from Klang.

"This one-off assistance will be distributed to every household taking refuge in PPS during the recent flood disaster," he said.

Najwan was speaking to the press during the 10-Minute Read Together programme at the Raja Tun Uda Library in Section 13 today.

He added that flood victims who did not seek shelter in PPS are also allowed to apply for the aid.

"Those not sheltering in PPS can file a police report on their flood situation and submit their applications to their respective district offices so that we can coordinate assistance," Najwan said.

Extraordinary heavy and prolonged rainfall last week submerged several areas, including Sungai Buloh, Subang, and Meru.

Three PPS were opened to accommodate affected victims, including at SK Merbau Sempak in Sungai Buloh, the Kuala Selangor Municipal Council Hall in Desa Coalfields, and SK Sungai Binjai in Meru.
