SHAH ALAM, April 21 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has confirmed that Barisan Nasional (BN) component party MIC will be on the ground to help the Unity Government coalition in the upcoming Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election on May 11.
This comes after he received a personal call from MIC president Tan Sri S.A. Vigneswaran, who affirmed the party’s support for the by-election.
“I received a call from the MIC president who affirmed his support for going on the ground in the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election…the media report (stating MIC will not support the campaign) is untrue,” Anwar said.

He was speaking to the press after the conclusion of Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s 25th-anniversary celebrations at the Ideal Convention Centre today.
This comes after MCA and MIC had issued an open letter stating they would not campaign in Kuala Kubu Baharu if the coalition did not field a BN candidate.
However, Anwar did not provide clarity on whether MCA would also actively participate in the campaign.
The Election Commission has scheduled the by-election’s nomination day and early voting on April 27 and May 7, respectively.
The Kuala Kubu Baharu state seat became vacant following the passing of its incumbent, Lee Kee Hiong, 58, on March 21 from cancer.
The electoral roll for the KKB by-election comprises 40,226 individuals, including 39,362 regular voters, 625 policemen, 238 Armed Forces personnel, and their spouses.
