SHAH ALAM, April 17 — Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, has extended various forms of aid to flood victims at two temporary evacuation centres (PPS) in Sungai Buloh following flash floods there.

Its social responsibility and corporate communication head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said RM10,000 has been allocated for basic necessities assistance to flood victims at SK Merbau Sempak and Dewan MPKS Desa Coalfields.

"The initial aid was distributed at SK Merbau Sempak yesterday and to Dewan MPKS Desa Coalfields earlier this morning," he said when contacted.

The aid provided includes essential goods such as mineral water, dry food, retort food pouches, mattresses, blankets, sanitary pads, and disposable diapers.

Previously, it was reported that flash floods had occurred in several areas in Sungai Buloh following heavy rainfall yesterday evening, affecting 403 victims from 88 families in Taman Saujana Aman at Kuala Selangor and Kampung Kubu Gajah in Sungai Buloh. This led to the opening of the PPS.

Currently, SK Merbau Sempak accommodates 364 victims, including 27 senior citizens, 11 infants, and three disabled persons, while Dewan MPKS Desa Coalfields is housing 38 victims.

At the time of writing, some victims have been allowed to return home. However, both PPS remain open to the remaining flood victims.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Wan Md Razali Wan Ismail assured that the department is ready to deploy more personnel to aid flood victims should the situation necessitate it.

Approximately 500 personnel are currently on standby, with all assets in good condition,

"Most of the water in the affected areas has receded and some victims have returned home. We allowed them to leave after monitoring the situation there.

"A combination of heavy rainfall and high tide caused the floods. However, the situation is under control," he said during a programme at the Aeon Mall Shah Alam today.

Additionally, Razali said his department is actively monitoring four locations at high risk of catching fire, namely Hutan Simpan Kuala Langat Utara and Selatan, Raja Musa, and Johan Setia, to ensure prompt action can be taken if necessary.
