SHAH ALAM, April 14 — The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj and Tengku Permaisuri Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin wish the state's Indian community a happy Tamil New Year and Vaisakhi.
The two celebrations are a part of the Tamil and Sikh communities, respectively.
"We wish the Sikh community a Happy Vaisakhi, and simultaneously the Tamil community a Happy Chithirai Puthandu (Tamil New Year) as well," said Their Royal Highnesses in a statement posted on the Selangor Royal Office's Facebook page today.
Sultan Sharafuddin and Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin both wished for such ethnocultural festivals to be celebrated in an atmosphere of unity, peace, harmony, and tolerance.
Meanwhile, Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari also wished Selangor's Indian community a happy Chithirai, Vishu, Ugadi, and Vaisakhi.
Vishu and Ugadi are the celebrations of the new year for the Malayali and Telugu communities, respectively.
"On this special day, let us plant the seeds of love and togetherness in our hearts.
"I hope this new year celebrations will bring a more meaningful peace and prosperity to us all," he said in a Facebook post.
