SHAH ALAM, April 7 –The state government is helping 180 Selangor students studying at universities located in other states to return home to their families for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari on a Facebook post said the programme, called Mahasiswa Selangor Pulang Beraya 2024, facilitates the return of varsity students from five universities nationwide, namely Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM), Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (Unisza), and Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA).
“Buses are provided at the respective universities to transport students to two locations, which are the Southern Integrated Terminal (TBS in Bandar Tasek Selatan) and the Selangor Secretariat Building in Shah Alam.
“The state government is fully committed to looking after the welfare of its students, and such programmes would help ease their financial burden, especially for those facing difficulties in securing tickets to return home for Raya,” the post read.
The initiative is organised by the state executive council committee for education and human capital development, in collaboration with Permas Nasional.
Amirudin said the programme is a continuation of the state government’s effort to assist students in returning to their hometowns during the Covid-19 pandemic.
