Customs Dept seizes Range Rover without AP

SEPANG, April 1 — The Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) seized a Range Rover SV luxury car lacking an approved permit (AP) at the MasKargo Complex of the Free Commercial Zone (FCZ) in the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), last Monday (March 25).

Customs Assistant Director-General (Central Zone) Norlela Ismail said the vehicle, estimated to be worth about RM2 million, was inspected at 4pm and found to have been imported without an AP from the Investment, Trade, and Industry Ministry (Miti).

Speaking at a press conference today, she said the preliminary investigation revealed the vehicle was believed to have been brought into Malaysia from a European country.

The value of the confiscated merchandise is estimated at RM1,097,300 and RM1,884,000 in tax, and the vehicle was then taken to the KLIA customs enforcement office for further investigation.

Norlela said the case is being investigated under Section 135(1(a) of the Customs Act 1967 for importing a motor vehicle without a permit.
