KUALA LUMPUR, March 5 — Selangor is committed to developing a more sustainable and resilient energy system in line with its future needs and challenges.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said developing green energy technology and environmental sustainability is among the priorities of the First Selangor Plan (RS-1).

"When I launched RS-1, in addition to focusing on economic development, people empowerment programmes, and improving the effectiveness of government service systems, another aspect emphasised was the focus on sustainability.

"It is not only limited to the number of trees preserved or to be planted in a particular area, but we must also consider the overall perspective of sustainability and resilience," he said.

Amirudin was speaking at the memorandum of understanding signing ceremony between the state government, Worldwide Holdings Berhad, and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) to explore energy-related development projects in Selangor today.

Also in attendance to witness the signing was Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah.

The Menteri Besar added the Department of Statistics has recorded the state population as surpassing seven million, equivalent to almost 22 per cent of the country's total population.

"With this population density, we must consider several aspects when discussing sustainability, including creating a conducive environment, especially in mature cities.

"In addition, ensuring energy needs are met not only for today but also by making long-term projections.

"The state government views the topic of energy generation seriously, to the extent of providing specialisation to subsidiaries like Worldwide Holdings Berhad to transition to a sustainable energy economy by constructing power generation plants," Amirudin said.
