KLANG, March 2 — The Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) celebrated Chinese New Year with 200 underprivileged residents from the Chinese community during its open house at Dewan Hamzah yesterday.

Klang mayor Datin Paduka Noraini Roslan said they provided 'ang pau' donations to 123 recipients consisting of poor families, disabled persons, and the elderly.

"I sincerely hope that celebrations like this serve as an opportunity for us to nurture compassion while progressing together with those in need.

"I am also confident that celebrations like this can foster stronger friendships and harmony among the council's employees," she said in her speech at the open house.

Meanwhile, recipient Tee Kiam Ong, 62, said even though the Chinese New Year ended last Sunday (February 25), the ang pau he received will be used to cover daily expenses.

"I am happy today not only to be celebrated but also to receive donations from the council, thank you to MBDK and council members for honouring us at this grand event," he said.

Fellow recipient and senior citizen Kuan Kim Liam, 85, also echoed Tee's sentiment, saying she hopes similar celebrations will continue so more financially challenged individuals can benefit.

"Until now, I only celebrated with my children and family, but today I was celebrated by MBDK. I am also grateful and thankful for the donation given," Kuan said.
