PETALING JAYA, Feb 27 — His Highness the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah launched the Selangor Cycling Icon (CSI) in an effort to support the development of cycling in the state.

The Selangor Youth Community (SAY) initiative sponsored by Tengku Amir Shah introduced four young local cyclists who have the potential to become professional sportsmen.

CSI Project Manager Amirul Aiman Mohd Noor said the pilot project was undertaken to support the development of talented cyclists looking to be promoted to the highest level.

"This project is a collaboration between the State Sports Council (MSN) and some of our strategic partners. Cycling has the potential for growth in the state as we have many world-class facilities here.

Cyclists are very disciplined and have strong endurance. Besides that, His Highness also wants us to find and nurture new talent within the next 10 years," he said.

Earlier, Tengku Amir listened to a brief explanation by Amirul Aiman, launched the CSI programme and introduced the four athletes at the Sunway Resort Hotel here, today.

Tengku Amir also agreed to witness the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between SAY, the Selangor State Cycling Association and sponsor, Innersejuk.

Also present at the signing were state executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Najwan Halimi, Selangor MSN executive director Mohamad Nizam Marjugi and Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) vice chancellor Datuk Prof Shahrin Sahib.

The four CSI cyclists selected are Muhd Fahmi Saharil, 18; Yong Ann Tung, 19; Fatin Nursyakira Mizy, 20, and the youngest athlete Mohammad Darwisy Hakimi Zarin, 17.
