AMPANG JAYA, Feb 25 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has vowed to maintain the harmonious relationships that currently exist between people of different backgrounds in the state.

He said it is incumbent on him as the leader of the most developed state in the country, which contributes massively to the national economy, to maintain this harmony.

“This harmony ensures that people live comfortably, respect each other, and understand each other despite our differences.

“It shouldn’t be an excuse for racial conflict, which could destroy this country which has achieved decades-long independence,” he said at the Gombak Parliament Chinese New Year open house at the Melawati Convention Centre, here last night.

Amirudin, who is Gombak MP, said yesterday’s celebration is also aimed at fostering unity and understanding among people of various races, as well as instilling the spirit of Malaysia Madani.

Among those present last night was Selangor Parti Keadilan Rakyat vice-chairman and Hulu Kelang state assembly coordinator Juwairiya Zulkifli.

More than 1,500 visitors attended the open house.

At the same time, Amirudin highlighted Selangor’s recent successes, ranking among the top three states in the country in implementing development projects.

“Selangor achieved a project implementation completion rate of 99.6 per cent under the 12th Malaysia Plan, placing us among the top three states.

“I believe this is a positive sign for our state and country to recover,” he said.

Earlier, Amirudin participated in the traditional tossing of yee sang with guests and distributed Chinese New Year ang pow to the children.
