‘He’s not our staff’: State waste operator clarifies on ang pow-soliciting foreigner

SHAH ALAM, Feb 20 — KDEB Waste Management Sdn Bhd (KDEBWM) has denied any association with a foreigner wearing its public cleaning crew attire who was caught soliciting ang pow contributions in a residential area in Klang recently.

The state waste management company clarified that its internal investigation revealed that the foreign individual in question was not employed by the firm or its subcontractors in any capacity.

"The investigation and subsequent review conducted by KDEBWM confirmed that the individual who solicited ang pow contributions is not affiliated with KDEBWM or its subcontractor crews.

"However, we have determined that the individual in question had misused the official attire of KDEBWM's public cleaning staff," it said in a statement last night.

This is in response to a video that has been circulating on social media depicting a foreigner in KDEBWM’s attire seeking ang pow contributions at residential homes along Jalan Batu Nilam, Bandar Bukit Tinggi 2, Klang, in conjunction with the recent Chinese New Year celebration.

The video, which was recorded by a concerned resident, has garnered public attention and sparked discussions on foreign workers issues and migrant concerns.

In the footage, the resident confronted the foreign individual, urging him to stop soliciting ang pow from his neighbours and vacate the gated neighbourhood.

To avoid further confusion, KDEBWM urged those who have shared the video on social media to promptly remove it, as the matter has been resolved.

“The public is also advised against spreading any unverified video recordings to prevent confusion and misunderstandings,” it said.
