Malaysia strengthens presence at 17th Tehran International Tourism Exhibition

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 15 — Tourism Malaysia, which is making its 15th consecutive appearance at the 17th Tehran International Tourism Exhibition (TITEX), aims to cultivate significant business partnerships and collaborations throughout the region and increase tourist arrivals to the country, particularly from Iran.

Tourism Malaysia director-general Datuk Dr Ahmad Abd Ghapar said that throughout the four-day event, which ends today, it had engaged in high-level networking sessions with Iranian travel experts and industry players.

He said Tourism Malaysia also showcased its presence through a dedicated pavilion featuring seven booths, hosting esteemed partners comprising tour operators, hotels and prominent airlines.

“Malaysia is currently among the few countries offering visa-free stays not exceeding 14 days for Iranian passport holders. Iran remains one of Malaysia’s top international tourist-generating markets in the Middle East, with arrivals totalling 13,506 from January to September 2023,” he said in a statement today.

Building on the success of last year's joint destination seminar to Isfahan and Shiraz in August, supported by Air Arabia, Tourism Malaysia said Malaysia reaffirmed its position as one of the top-of-mind travel destinations for Iranians in gearing up for the Visit Malaysia Year 2026.

Tourism Malaysia said Iranian travellers could easily reach Malaysia from various cities, including Tehran, Mashhad, Isfahan, Tabriz and Shiraz, via renowned carriers such as Qatar Airways, Emirates, Etihad Airways, and Air Arabia.
