SERDANG, Feb 15 — Tourism Selangor is calling on local councils to join in the campaign to actively promote attractive destinations to both local and international tourists ahead of the Visit Selangor Year 2025.

Its chief executive officer Azrul Shah Mohamad said these promotional efforts will help the state achieve its target of welcoming 5.6 million visitors this year.

“We (Tourism Selangor) didn’t wait long to start promoting interesting tourist spots across the state as we will not only celebrate the Visit Selangor Year next year, but also the Visit Malaysia Year in 2026.

"We need to seize every opportunity to ensure Selangor continues to attract tourists. However, this requires the cooperation of all parties, including local authorities," he said during a program to explore Selangor's natural beauty and food, here, yesterday.

Azrul urged local councils in the state to play a more crucial role in promoting interesting destinations within their respective jurisdictions.

“A lot of things need to be done and these require the support of the local councils,” he said.

“With the recent upgrading of Klang, we now have four cities, including Shah Alam, Subang Jaya, and Petaling Jaya. We hope they, in particular, will help promote Selangor to achieve the 5.6 million tourists target this year."

Last month, state executive councillor for tourism Dato’ Ng Suee Lim had said the state government is targeting over 5.6 million domestic and international tourist arrivals throughout 2024, far surpassing last year’s figure.

The projection number is almost a million more than the 4.8 million tourists the country’s most developed state welcomed in 2023.

He said this is possible through the various campaigns to promote the state, adding that this year is the ‘final sprint’ before the Visit Selangor Year 2025.
