SERDANG, Feb 15 — Tourism Selangor is now focused on the food tourism industry to ensure that the state remains a preferred destination for tourists.
Tourism Selangor chief executive officer Azrul Shah Mohamad said this is because the sector is getting more and more popular, especially during the school holidays.
"We want to focus on food tourism because each district has its own unique food such as the famous satay in Kajang," he said.
Azrul Shah said Tourism Selangor also set up the selangor.travel portal to make it easier for the public to get information about food tourism in the state.
"Selangor Tourism as a tourism promotion agency always helps food entrepreneurs to popularise the name of their stalls while at the same time paying attention to the cleanliness and safety of visitors.
"Maybe there are some popular food locations on social media but we have not publicised them as they don't meet the required standard. They can contact Tourism Selangor to make enquiries ," he said.
Meanwhile, Farm Fresh Bhd Services head Faris Zainal said his organisation is always open to working with Tourism Selangor because the farm is at a strategic location.
"Previously, the company operated on its own by advertising for tourists on social media. With the cooperation of Tourism Selangor and hot air balloon operators we have managed to provide attractive tour packages thus increasing the number of visitors," he said.
Earlier, Tourism Selangor took members of the media on a hot air balloon ride at the Farm Fresh venue in Serdang. Media practitioners were also taken to visit the Herb Garden and Kelulut Farm at the Malaysian Agricultural Expo Park (Maeps).
