Don’t dawdle on clients’ cases for profit, Syariah lawyers told

SHAH ALAM, Feb 8 —Syariah lawyers in the state are reminded not to deliberately delay their client's case for the sake of profit thus avoiding an increase in the backlog of cases.

Selangor Syariah Chief Judge Datuk Mohammad Adib Husain said Syariah lawyers also need to give the best advice to their clients so that they can resolve cases filed through sulh or mutual agreement.

"In this way, more cases can be resolved quickly. It also avoids the increase in the backlog of cases every year.

"Without good communication, maximum input cannot be obtained and will cause various proceedings to be delayed," said Mohammad Adib at the commissioning ceremony and presentation of the Selangor Syariah lawyer certificates today.

In the meantime, he also advised Syariah lawyers to remain ethical and not be too passionate about using social media as a medium for sharing cases they are handling.

"As Syariah lawyers in the era of technology and unlimited access to information, there are some of them who use social media to gain popularity by peddling the facts of their respective clients' cases.

"Be careful with the marketing that is done because the best marketing is through actual performance rather than through social media," he said.
