SHAH ALAM, Jan 14 — The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) is targeting tax collection this year of RM530 million, said the acting mayor.

Shah Alam Acting Mayor Cheremi Tarman said the collection target increased from last year by RM505 million and includes assessment tax revenues.

“The amount targeted was increased following last year’s successful collection of 96 per cent of the taxes valued at RM310 million.

“MBSA hopes that taxpayers can carry out their responsibilities by paying dues in time as various prizes are up for grabs,” he said here today.

Meanwhile, he also said that MBSA will continue to upgrade public infrastructure for the benefit and comfort of the community.

“MBSA is also readying to celebrate its silver jubilee next year and is therefore trying to upgrade public facilities.

“In addition to public infrastructure and roads, MBSA is also actively upgrading the traffic flow system and boosting its landscaping programme,” he said.

For the record, MBSA was upgraded from a municipality on October 10, 2000. Apart from MBSA, two other local authorities in Selangor have also attained city status, namely Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) and Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ).

On a separate matter, Cheremi said the installation of light-emitting diodes (LED) in areas under MBSA’s administration is expected to be completed this year.

He pointed out that 98 per cent of 46,000 street lights have already been swapped with LEDs since works commenced in 2018.

“As a result, electricity bills for street light usage have significantly reduced from RM13 million in 2018 to RM5.7 million in 2022.

“This not only saves us money but also reduces carbon emission, in line with the objective of the First Selangor Plan for sustainability,” he said.
