Floods: Over 1,000 evacuated in Johor as of 8pm

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 4 — The number of flood evacuees in Johor has continued to rise to 1,024 people housed in 13 temporary relief centres (PPS) as of 8pm, compared with 330 people in seven PPS reported at 2pm.

According to the latest disaster report nationwide issued by the National Disaster Management Agency's National Disaster Command Centre, the 13 PPS in the state include four in Johor Bahru, accommodating 404 people, six in Kota Tinggi (348 people), two in Mersing (212 people), and one in Kluang (60 people).

Meanwhile, a survey of the situation by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage found three rivers at dangerous levels, namely Sungai Endau in Kluang, Johor, which recorded a reading of 14.57m on an upward trend; Sungai Perak in Hulu Perak, Perak (112.06m on a downward trend), and Sungai Arau in Arau, Perlis (23.47m on an upward trend) tonight.

26 roads are closed due to flooding, damaged bridges, and landslide incidents.

Among the affected roads are Jalan Raya Timur Barat (JRTB) Kupang-Gerik-Jeli in Hulu Perak, Perak; Jalan Kota Tinggi-Kluang in Kluang, Johor; Jalan Bukit Kayu Hitam-Bukit Tangga-Sintok in Kubang Pasu, Kedah; and Jalan Temerloh-Jerantut in Pahang.
