Sg Buloh rep donates RM332,000 MP's salary to worship houses, as promised

SHAH ALAM, Dec 28 — Pakatan Harapan's Sungai Buloh MP R. Ramanan has delivered on his election pledge to donate his entire monthly salary and allowance as a lawmaker to houses of worship in his constituency. 

In a post on X, the Parti Keadilan Rakyat man said a total of RM332,000 has been distributed to 74 worship houses of various religions. 

They include mosques, surau, Hindu and Buddhist temples, churches and religious associations. 

"The primary focus of the donation is to provide support to these places of worship to aid in the welfare of the residents there and promote living as a compassionate community.

This initiative is hoped to be able to assist those in need and develop the socio economy of every community in the Sungai Buloh parliamentary constituency," he said today. 

Previously, during the campaigning period of the 15th General Election in November last year, Ramanan had vowed to give up the entirety of his salary to houses of worship if he is elected as Sungai Buloh MP. 

He had also signed a declaration letter to this effect. 

Ramanan would later go on to capture the seat, defeating Umno's Khairy Jamaluddin with a slim majority of 2,693 votes, or just 2.08 per cent of the overall ballots cast.

In a separate X post on Tuesday where he shared his report card for the year, Ramanan said the trust and support from the public has been the main driving force behind his continued commitment to ensure the progress and well-being of every individual. 

He also noted that RM3.7 million in allocation for the constituency has been spent for numerous programmes and initiatives. 

Of this, he said RM2 million (54 per cent) was utilised to implement various people-centric projects, like upgrading of public facilities. 

This is followed by RM1.127 million (29 per cent) for community programmes, RM132,520 (6 per cent) for worship houses, RM160,190 (4 per cent) for welfare assistance, RM134,830 (4 per cent) for education, and RM98,850 (3 per cent) for disaster aid.
