SHAH ALAM, Dec 24 — A total of 150 fruit trees of various species were planted via the Dusun@My Sekolah programme at SMK Setia Alam on December 6.

Acting Shah Alam Mayor Cheremi Tarman said the annual programme, organised by the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), is now in its ninth edition.

"It is one of our efforts to instil a love for the environment and greenery among Shah Alam residents, beginning at the school level.

"Additionally, it aligns with MBSA's goal to make Shah Alam a low-carbon city by 2030," he said during an interview on Friday (December 22).

Cheremi added that students are also exposed to basic knowledge about fruit trees and the correct methods of planting and caring for these trees.

Since its launch in 2013, various types of fruit trees have been planted, including rambutan, mangosteen, pulasan, starfruit, and Malay gooseberries.

Since 2010, MBSA has also organised the 'Shah Alam Trees For Life' programme and successfully planted 177,899 trees of various species.

"MBSA has conducted 68 tree planting programmes involving over 22,000 volunteers from various higher education institutions, non-governmental organisations, government agencies, as well as corporate and private companies," he said.
