SUBANG JAYA, Dec 23 — The Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) has taken several proactive steps, including ensuring the drainage system in areas under its jurisdiction is maintained according to schedule, to address flood risks.

Mayor Datuk Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim said two main departments, namely the Engineering Department and the Environmental Management Department (JPAS), have been assigned to monitor the current situation.

The departments will ensure the drainage system is in good condition, not blocked, and free of obstacles.

"JPAS will ensure no rubbish is stuck in the drains and rubbish traps function properly. If there is any rubbish trapped, they will remove it.

"They will conduct periodic monitoring at the relevant locations and must provide weekly reports directly to me.

"This will assure us that the drainage system is clear, free of rubbish, and in good condition," he said.

Fauzi was speaking during a press conference after chairing MBSJ's full monthly meeting at its headquarters yesterday.

He added the council will also organise a tree planting program, Pledge and Plant A Tree (Papat), in January next year to achieve Selangor's low carbon goal by 2030.

Through this special corporate social responsibility programme, in collaboration with the Malaysian Institute of Planners, seven housing developers will be involved as corporate sponsors with a total collection of RM45,000.

"Through the participants, 35 trees will be planted in the public land area BK 3/1, and these trees will be registered in the sponsor's name on the Campaign to Plant 100 Million Trees website," Fauzi said.
