Selangor companies keen to invest in Indonesia’s new capital Nusantara

JAKARTA, Dec 20 — Several state government-owned companies from Selangor have shown strong interest to invest in the development of Indonesia’s new capital city, Nusantara, according to investment promotion agency Invest Selangor.

Chief executive officer Datuk Hasan Azhari Idris said these companies are involved in various sectors, including residential construction, health services, renewable energy, and waste management.

“We’re interested in potential development cooperation from the early stages of this project and in providing skills and expertise,” he said during a meeting with the Indonesian and Malaysian media here.

Invest Selangor is one of the participants in a four-day Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation-led export acceleration mission to Indonesia which ends tomorrow.

According to Hasan Azhari, the agency will engage closely with the Nusantara Capital City Authority (OIKN) and is open to the possibility of submitting a letter of intent.

“After returning to Malaysia, we will plan for Selangor’s involvement in Nusantara’s development,” he added.

Datin Paduka Norazlina Zakaria, group chief executive officer of Selangor government-owned Worldwide Holdings Bhd, has expressed interest in exploring investments in the real estate sector, green energy and halal-certified medical products.

“There’re many healthcare providers in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan. If possible, we would like to collaborate with local healthcare companies to bring Indonesian goods to Malaysia and vice versa,” she said.

Selangor state secretary Datuk Haris Kasim expressed hope that Selangor can participate in the Nusantara development programme by partnering with Indonesian government ministries, agencies and companies.

“This is an initiative to strengthen bilateral relations for the long term,” he added.
