Sleepless nights: Taman Wawasan residents worried sick after landslide incident

SUBANG JAYA, Dec 20 — The landslide incident in Taman Wawasan, Puchong on Saturday that affected nine houses along Jalan Wawasan 3/9 and 3/14 here has left residents in nearby units living in constant fear.

They claimed they are now having sleepless nights, concerned that the disaster may affect their homes too if the wet weather persists.

Low Mee Yeng, 69, said her family is still traumatised by the incident, which happened for the first time since she moved to the area in 1999.

"On the night of the incident, our family couldn't sleep at all and we stayed awake till morning. In fact, to this day, we find it difficult to sleep at night as we are worried anything might happen, especially during heavy rain.

"Even now, we are practising caution because rain keeps falling in the evening, what more with the iron piling works to stabilise the soil yet to be completed," she said when met yesterday.

Another resident, 43-year-old May Yong Seuh, described the incident as the most terrifying experience since she moved here about five years ago.

"Everytime it rains, I will be awake, worried that another landslide might happen. This is especially as my house is located very close to the landslide site.

"My family is lucky as our house wasn't affected by the incident, although we do fear as the soil structure is not yet stabilised amid ongoing works by the authorities," she said.

Earlier yesterday, Serdang District Police Chief ACP A.A. Anbalagan said residents of units other than the nine affected houses need not be worried as their areas have been classified safe.

He also confirmed that there has been no significant soil movement recently following the installation of 74 sheet pilings at the disaster site.

The landslide, which occurred about 7.30pm on Saturday, caused four vehicles to be buried, although no casualties were reported.

A total of 29 occupants of nine terraced houses were directed to evacuate due to safety concerns following the disaster.
