MCMC reminds public not spread fatal accident's video content online

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 18 — The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) issued a reminder to the public today to not spread or share videos or photos of the fatal accident involving a Form Five student in Meru, Ipoh on Friday (December 15).

It said such actions are punishable under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

The MCMC also urged those who have uploaded such content to remove and delete them out of respect for the victim’s family.

“The sharing of such content not only will hurt the feelings of the victim’s family but violates basic principles and ethics. Every individual should consider things carefully and not spread such photos or videos,” it said in a statement.

The MCMC also advised the public not to speculate on the matter as the case is still ongoing, and conveyed its sympathies to the victim’s family over their loss.

The Form Five student was killed when he was hit by a car at Jalan Taman Jati near Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Jati in Meru, Ipoh, believed to have been driven by a senior police officer with the rank of deputy superintendent (DSP).

The officer, 44, was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder at the Ipoh Magistrate’s Court earlier today.
