KOTA BHARU, Dec 18 — A total of 848 officers and members of the First Responder Team (FRT) and Forward Medical Team (FMT) have been deployed to conduct Op Murni in Kelantan and Terengganu's flood-affected areas.
Eighth Infantry Brigade commander Brigadier General Datuk Azudin Hassan said that in Kelantan, the personnel were stationed in Kuala Krai, Tanah Merah, and Pasir Mas.
In Terengganu, it involved Dungun, Kuala Nerus, and Kuala Terengganu.
“Op Murni is a military operation based on the Military Operations Other Than War (MOOTW) concept that uses military assets to safely evacuate victims to relief centres,” he told the press after attending the FRT and FMT parade in conjunction with Op Murni at the 8th Brigade headquarters in Pengkalan Chepa today.
All 4,500 8th Infantry Brigade personnel will be deployed to flood-affected areas should the situation be more severe than the floods in 2014.
When asked about border control during the flood season, Azudin said so far, the 8th Brigade personnel were carrying out the duties as usual, even though some border control posts were flooded.
“Members on duty (at flooded border control posts) carry out patrols using boats or lorries to curb smuggling activities,” he said.
