SHAH ALAM, Dec 17 — State waste management company KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) will focus on 242 flood-prone locations in preparation for the ongoing northeast monsoon season.

Its managing director Datuk Ramli Tahir said these locations include 51 sites in areas around the Shah Alam City Council, followed by the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (47), and the Kajang Municipal Council (35).

"To this, we urge the community to maintain the drains' cleanliness around their residences and ensure water channels are not blocked to prevent flooding.

"Do not dispose of rubbish into the drains and avoid constructing permanent structures over drainages, as it will complicate cleaning and maintenance operations," he said.

Ramli also reminded restaurant owners not to dispose of cooking oil waste into the drains, as this could possibly result in drainage system blockages.

"If everyone is concerned and responsible, clear water channels and drains can help prevent flooding incidents," he said.

Malaysian Meteorological Department director-general Muhammad Helmi Abdullah has stated the northeast monsoon, which began last month, will continue until March next year.

As a precautionary measure, the state government is providing 10,000 basic aid packages, including dry food and daily necessities, to ensure the well-being of all victims.

It has also requested the Fire and Rescue Department, the Armed Forces, and the Civil Defence Force, to prepare and ensure their assets are in good condition to facilitate smooth rescue operations.
