LABUAN, Dec 1 — The Federal government remains committed to providing an annual RM7 million subsidy for sea travellers commuting between Labuan and Sabah, Sarawak, and vice versa in 2024.
In a statement, Labuan Corporation (LC) said this subsidy, which has been in place since 2014, is dedicated to alleviating the financial burden on Malaysian citizens travelling by sea to and from the island.
The allocation is to subsidise 50 per cent of the ferry and speed boat passenger fares.
The subsidised routes encompass Labuan-Menumbok-Labuan, Labuan-Kota Kinabalu-Labuan, Labuan-Sipitang-Labuan, Labuan-Limbang-Labuan, and Labuan-Lawas-Labuan.
LC chief executive officer Rithuan Ismail said the sea travel subsidy not only eases the financial strain on commuters in Sabah but also benefits those from Sarawak making similar journeys.
