Cop suspected of kidnapping Bangladeshi journalist suspended from work

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 30 — One of the three policemen suspected of kidnapping a Bangladeshi journalist has been interdicted from performing duties.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid, who confirmed the matter, said similar action on the other two officers will be considered pending the investigation's outcome.

“We are awaiting further developments as the case is (also) being investigated by the Selangor police. As for the Kuala Lumpur police, we have taken action by suspending the policeman concerned,” he told the press after the Kuala Lumpur police monthly assembly at the contingent headquarters today.

It was previously reported that a Bangladeshi journalist claimed to have undergone a harrowing experience after he was kidnapped and tortured for three days by locals claiming to be policemen in a house in Klang.

The victim, who declined to be identified and is in his thirties, said he was beaten, caned, kicked in the stomach, and had his hands bound by a group of local men who demanded RM1.9 million from him if he wanted to be set free.
