SERDANG, Nov 26 — The Sultan of Selangor reminded Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) graduates to uphold courtesy and decency when communicating, especially on social media.

Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj also advised graduates to refrain from making inappropriate comments and issuing statements involving slander, insults, and jealousy, especially concerning race, religion, and the royal institution (3R).

"Such actions can damage public opinion, invite conflicts, and threaten our unity," His Royal Highness said during the second session of the first semester of UPM's 47th Convocation at Dewan Besar Pusat Kebudayaan dan Kesenian Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah yesterday.

The Ruler emphasised that graduates should also uphold the Federal Constitution and nation's laws, to be free from misconduct which could tarnish the dignity of their families and Malaysia.

"I also urge graduates to strive in their chosen fields of work and to carry out their duties with honesty and integrity at all times.

"Additionally, I encourage graduates to consistently work towards elevating the dignity of their parents, families, and the country to higher levels with the knowledge they have acquired," said His Royal Highness.

In the royal speech as UPM's Chancellor, Sultan Sharafuddin also stressed that quality education is at the core of Malaysia's development, aligning with sustainable development goals (SDG).

"SDG outlines quality education as a crucial agenda to enhance the community's potential and talents," said His Royal Highness.
