SHAH ALAM, Nov 14 — The Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) is partnering up with Japan in its bid to improve agricultural technology in the state.
The state agency said the initiative is one of its efforts to enhance food security in Selangor, in line with the 2024 Budget tabled by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari last Friday.
“Our Group chief executive officer Mohamad Khairil Mohamad Razi recently met with Michihiro Mase, the Deputy Mayor of Izumisano City, Osaka, Japan,” it said in a Facebook post today.
“This is part of an ongoing process to identify relevant agricultural technology specifically related to the cultivation of rice and vegetables.”
PKPS said it is also looking to penetrate the international halal market through participation in the World Expo 2025, which will be held in Osaka.
This will be done via partnership with Izumisano, with primary focus on halal food products.
It is also striving towards potential collaboration with other proven leaders in industrial agriculture.
The World Expo 2025 is estimated to welcome some 28 million visitors, with an estimated potential revenue of up to US$20 billion.
Previously in his budget tabling, Amirudin announced that RM50 million will be allocated to improve the state’s food security, of which RM40 million will be apportioned for PKPS to increase the supply stock to be sufficient for six months, up from three previously.
